Google has released AI Edge Foresight, a meeting assistant designed to work locally on a device. The app can transcribe conversations, create notes and answer questions based on a meeting without relying on a constant cloud connection.

The product enters territory occupied by Granola, whose meeting-note workflow has helped establish a market for AI tools that turn conversations into structured records. According to TechCrunch, Google positions AI Edge Foresight as an offline-capable alternative built around on-device AI.

Local processing could matter for teams handling sensitive discussions, including product planning, customer calls and internal strategy meetings. It may also make the tool more practical where connectivity is limited or where organisations want tighter control over meeting data.

For startups building AI productivity software, Google’s move raises the competitive pressure around core features such as transcription and summarisation. The differentiation will increasingly rest on workflow design, data handling and how well tools fit into the systems teams already use.
